Return of the missing blogger

Return of the missing blogger

I’ve been missing now for over 3 months. OK, shame on me but I was really very busy for awhile there. Since I’ve retired I’ve often had quite a bit of time on my hands but that certainly changed just after I bought a house. Yes, I moved from a decent apartment in a decidedly ratty neighborhood to a much nicer place in a nice neighborhood. And it’s mine! But of course that’s not all of the story. While the house was generally in very good shape per the inspectors, there were a few things to do. In addition to the regular maintenance items, the kitchen left a lot to be desired. So that has been completely redone. It’s amazing how much time that can take even if someone else is doing most of the work. The most significant bit of work that I did was painting the kitchen cabinets. I just wanted something other than wood and it saves a significant amount of money painting them yourself.

The pictures that follow are not what I’d like to have. It seems that the software updates made the photo viewer, well, AFU (all f****d up) so I have full size pictures everywhere. Now I need to see if I can find something to replace the old photo viewer plugin. In the meantime there’s just be big photos.

First the BEFORE pictures….

The before picture of cabinets and sink

The old kitchen had marginal appliances, a very old linoleum floor, a funky sink and no dishwasher, range hood or garbage disposal. The tiles were cute but they just don’t work very well for a kitchen counter surface. They’re much harder to clean. While I was at it I found that there was space wasted due to a rather large vent pipe as well so I decided to have the furnace replaced as well. A new high efficiency one has lots of benefits compared to the old one that was installed in 1950. Yes, there was a city inspection tag on the furnace that maybe I’ll frame.

And now the AFTER pictures…

New cabinets, sink, dishwasher, floor, etc.

Now new cabinets, kitchen counter, appliances, bamboo (stranded) floor and a great work space beside the stove. I’m a happy cook again. Of course there’s some exterior work that I’d like to do but maybe next year for that. For now everything is OK to weather the rainy winter.

Admittedly everything significant was finished in early July but by then I was just kind of out of the habit of blogging. So now I am intent on getting back into it. There are stories to tell.
